Contrast Control

Some experiments with The Imaging Factory’s Convert to Black&White Pro

This is the first step in trying to emulate digitally the method of contrast control so successfully used by Les McLean

See http://www.lesmcleanphotography.com/articles.php?page=full&article=21

It uses the Imaging Factory’s Convert to Black&White Pro 3.0

You can get a trial version from http://www.theimagingfactory.com/

Les’s method uses soft and hard filtration, in the good old wet darkroom this the blending of Grade 0 and Grade 5 print exposures

The colour image

Then using convert to B/W Pro

Grade 0

and

Grade 5

in PS I had the Grade 5 as a layer above the Grade 0 and the grade 5 was set to Soft Light blend

I tried a straight convert in Black&White Pro and this was around grade 1.5

Looks like a digital version of Les’s method has great promise...
